Guest Speaker Susan Hartley
"Global Voices for Peace"
Susan Hartley introduced Global Voices for Peace, a platform created to highlight the vital work of peacebuilders worldwide, foster collaboration, and inspire hope that peace is both active and possible.
President Susan shared highlights from recent activities, including a working bee at the Share Shed, board and subcommittee meetings, and ongoing membership initiatives. Plans are underway to reduce membership fees, and the club has been selected to feature in a Rotary International social media campaign.
🎤 Food Plant Solutions
Guest speaker Rtn Rick Campbell presented on Food Plant Solutions, a Rotary Action Group addressing malnutrition through locally adapted, nutrient-rich plants. He highlighted the importance of the first 1,000 days of life, shared examples of successful projects in Vietnam and Sudan, and outlined the program’s sustainable, volunteer-led approach.
👋 Membership & Governance
New members Rtn Liz Maturi and Rtn Kathy Croughan were formally welcomed to the club. Progress on the Membership Action Plan is strong, with 80 - 90% completed, and potential collaboration with the Rotary Club of Atlantis (South Africa) was noted. The District Governor nominee process was cancelled.
📦 Project Updates
SHARE Project: Jenny thanked members for their support and shared plans for upcoming work in Papua New Guinea, with logistics to be managed by Brent Moore and Olivia Ephraim.
Rotary Peace Arboretum: Philip reported positive progress, including healthy tree growth and improved watering systems.
Planning is underway for the club’s 10-year charter anniversary, to be held at the Wangaratta Turf Club on 22 February, with around 50 attendees and online participation.
Rtn Francis Acquah recently visited the Rotary Club of St Kitts in the Caribbean, sharing insights from a vibrant meeting highlighting strong membership, active community projects, fundraising initiatives, and preparations for an upcoming District Governor visit, an excellent example of Rotary in action globally.
Sri Lanka, Dambana Primary School
The Rotary Club of Badulla, Rotary E-Club of Change Makers Australia, and Rotaract Club of Uva Wellassa University delivered a three-day English program at Dambana Primary School, led by Rtn Robyn Jones. The project included donated learning materials and a 30-computer lab, with plans for ongoing online English support and future scholarship opportunities—broadening education pathways for this indigenous community.
Rotary acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of the land and acknowledges and pays respect to their elders, past and present.
