Say no to Domestic Violence

On July 23rd we will be having two guest speakers on the subject of Say no to Domestic Violence.

We will have special guest Rtn David Harmon from the RC of Ballina on Richmond in NSW.

David and his club launched this program in Ballina NSW and it quickly gained traction in Rotary.

SNTDV has now spread to many Rotary Clubs and communities throughout Australia.

Rtn Phil Keegan, the current President of the RC of Bright VIC, is also attending and his club has embraced this program and will tell us how they went about it, and how it has impacted their town of Bright in North East Victoria.

David and Phil will outline how they took this project to their communities and how it is now making a significant impact.

Our goal out of this is to formulate a plan of action about how we can take this to our on-line communities.

2026.07.08 Adivasi Language Dictionary First Draft
Adivasi Language Dictionary Project

The goal of the Adivasi Language Dictionary Project, led by Rotary e-Club of Change Makers member, Pieter Siebel was to record this indigenous Sri Lankan language of the Vedda people for posterity

The draft of the Adivasi Dictionary represents the culmination of a collaborative effort to document and preserve the language of the Adivasi (Vedda) people of Sri Lanka. It is the result of conversations, fieldwork, community consultation, and the generous sharing of knowledge by the Vedda people of Dambana.

The draft needs further editing and formatting and Rotary e-Club of Change Makers member, Leslie Champion has offered her considerable skills for this.

The draft of the Adivasi Dictionary was compiled by Pieter Siebel In collaboration with:

Part of Rotary Club of Balwyn Centenary Grant of A$10 0000 awarded to the Rotary e-Club of Change Makers for the installation of paving to address flooding impacts and improve safe access around the facility at the Svay Chek Health Centre, Nokor Pheas Pi, Svay Chek Khum, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.

This is an acknowledgement provided by Rotary e-Club of Change Makers member, Pieter Siebel to all those that provided help, assistance and funding for the Adivasi Language Dictionary project. Its goal was to record this indigenous Sri Lankan language of the Vedda people for posterity and today that goal has been achieved.

100 Laptops Donated to Indigenous Sri Lankan School Through Rotary’s SHARE Project
Students at Dambana Primary School in Sri Lanka are about to take a huge leap forward in digital learning, thanks to a donation of 100 repurposed laptops coordinated by the Rotary eClub of Change Makers and the SHARE Project (Serving Humanity and Repurposing Equipment).
The laptops, generously sourced from St Peter’s School in Keilor East, will provide the school’s students—many of whom have never used a computer before—with access to vital educational tools.
“This is a transformational opportunity for these children,” said Rotarian Pieter Siebel. “For the first time, they will be able to explore the world of digital learning, improve their English skills, and access resources that were previously out of reach.”
 
Rotary SHARE (Serving Humanity & Repurposing Equipment) 
Saturday 15th March the SHARE committee met at Broadford to create a Strategic Plan that will guide the SHARE project for the next 5 years.
 
The SHARE Project collects medical, educational and vocational equipment from organisations that no longer require them, but however recognise their value for others. The goods are stored, sorted and distributed from The SHARE Project warehouse in Broadford, Victoria.

Sri Lanka - Dambana School project

The Dambana School Project has delivered progressive changes to the Dambana school and its surrounding community while supporting the preservation of cultural heritage. Through a series of impactful initiatives, the project has addressed important educational and community needs, ensuring long-term benefits for students, teachers, and villagers.

A major achievement is the provision of a reliable water supply to the school. For 35 years, the school operated without running water that greatly impacted students daily lives. The new water system benefits both the school and the community, with a dedicated outlet for local villagers to collect water. This vital resource fosters a stronger bond between the school and its community.

Rotary Change Maker member Lawrie Leeman is the Chair and Director of “Rice for Cambodia”.
The Rotary e-Club of Change Makers has supported this charity by making significant donations via the Rotary Foundation and continues this support into the future.

Cambodia Clean Water and Toilet Project 
Rotary E-Club of Change Makers member, Darrel Steer is the Director of the Cambodia Clean Water & Toilet Project
Clean water and sanitary toilets are essential for health. It is in this area of health and hygiene with clean water and sanitary toilets that a significant change can be made in the lives of village families.
The poster Discussing Health and Hygiene includes:

  • Tetanus awareness.
  • Dengue fever prevention.
  • Health effects of burning plastics.
Cambodia Clean Water and Toilet Project

Clean water and good sanitation are two of the cornerstones of a healthy community. There is no need so basic as having clean water to drink, but over half the population of Cambodia does not have access to clean water. In the countryside, most people rely on water from rivers, streams and ponds. This water is often polluted and is a major cause of health issues in children.

The lack of sanitary toilets exacerbates the water problems. Nearly 70% of Cambodia’s rural population have no toilet.

Project includes:
  • New septic tanks.
  • Student sponsorship with new laptop computers.
  • Latest washroom toilet that caters for people with a disability.
Teacher in a Box - A Project of the Rotary e-Club of Change Makers
 

What is Teacher in a box?

In a nutshell it is a huge interactive library of community and academic resources that can be accessed without internet. Yes, NO internet!!

Why is it needed
In many rural villages in developing countries there is no internet, and even in places where there is internet it may be unreliable, or the cost limits people’s use. Teacher in a Box has a huge positive impact where there are limited teaching resources or teachers with limited training or education themselves. Our Teacher in a Box servers support self-paced learning as well as classroom teaching.

Thanks to the amazing generosity and efforts of not-for-profit educational software developers, our own computer donors and our volunteer workers, we are able to supply Teacher in a Box pre-loaded with a huge range of quality educational and training materials at minimal cost.

    Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG)
    Members of the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group work with representatives from the World Wildlife Fund India to test the water in the Bhavani River. The Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) assists Rotary clubs and districts in planning, implementing, and evaluating service projects that promote environmental sustainability, awareness of climate change, and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. ESRAG’s River Bhavani project is led by Rotary District 3203 and involves river clean-up activities, water testing, and community assessments along the River Bhavani in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, India. Partnering with the Ministry of Water, the World Wildlife Fund India, and the Government of India, the river was adopted by Rotary District 3203 as a long-term project with over 80 clubs in the district providing support.
