Rotary e-Club of Change Makers Club Meeting: 19 February 2026

Those present were moved into breakout sessions and asked to consider what attracted them to our club, and how can we keep our new members engaged. Here is the feedback based on our breakout room discussion.

What Attracts Members – and What Keeps Them Engaged?

Recent breakout room discussions highlighted strong alignment around why members are drawn to our club and what sustains engagement over time.

Members consistently spoke about the flexibility and accessibility of our online format, which enables people to connect from many locations and life circumstances. This model supports participation, inclusion and ongoing connection, while Zoom meetings were seen as an effective and convenient way to communicate and collaborate.

A strong motivator for joining is the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects. Members value being able to make a positive difference, work for change, and engage in both local and international initiatives alongside like-minded people. Our club’s international outlook and global Rotary connections were repeatedly identified as a distinctive and energising feature.

Equally important is the quality of fellowship. Members described the inspiration that comes from working with a diverse mix of people – across ages, backgrounds and experience – and the sense of belonging that develops through shared purpose. Feeling welcomed, valued and connected was seen as central to retention.

Discussions also reinforced the importance of intentional engagement, particularly for new members. Clear and concise communication, strong onboarding, and actively involving newer members in projects were identified as priorities. At the same time, members emphasised the value of inviting long-serving Rotarians to share ideas and shape future directions, which can reinvigorate enthusiasm and deepen commitment.

Finally, practical enablers matter. Improving administrative efficiency was seen as a way to free up time and energy for what matters most – service, projects and relationships.

Overall, the message was clear:

  1. People are attracted by:
    1. Flexibility.
    2. Purpose.
    3. Connection.
  2. People stay engaged when they feel:
    1. Involved.
    2. Heard.
    3. Inspired to contribute.
