End Trachoma

'The EndTrachoma Project was started in 2016 with the goal to help eradicate the leading cause of infectious blindness in the world that is shamefully still active in Australia in the communities of our First Nations Peoples. Backed by then Rotary International President, Ian Riseley, and with Optometrist Lien Trinh as the Project Manager for the first 5 years, EndTrachoma has made some significant impacts in the area of prevention over the last 8 years. In 2016, the rate of trachoma across Australia was 4.7% of the at-risk population. In 2022 it had reduced to 2.2. We await the latest results due in March 2025.

We have connected/partnered with over 250 Rotary, Rotaract, Interact clubs across Australia, had District Champions in every district, and still have people that have been on our team since the beginning. 

Sandi Fulcher is the Project Manager for EndTrachoma, previously Project Administration Coordinator 2017-2021. First joined Rotary in Heathrow, England in 2003 and then Chadstone/East Malvern (Melbourne) in 2005 upon returning to Melbourne to live. 

Career has included Retail Management (30 years), Insurance, recruitment, and administration support of various charities. Member of Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) committee and the SHARE Project committee providing support in the areas of marketing/promotion.

Sandi lives in Glen Iris, Vic, works in South Melbourne for WomenCAN Australia as EA to the CEO, has twin nieces, a 6ft 5 nephew and 8 godchildren. Claim to fame - mother was the first female president of the first Rotary Club in Australia - Rotary Melbourne - and in the year of the centenary of Rotary.
